teaching the deaf to reach the deaf
In Guatemala, approximately one in every twenty people are deaf. The vast majority are undereducated, oppressed and undervalued. Most do not have a language and little means of communication. Guatemala Deaf Ministries is providing a sense of community through the many different activities happening each week. Nearly 50 deaf children are attending our school with classes for deaf adults as well. In the afternoons, eighteen students are learning vocational skills that will help them succeed in life. There are parent classes, community classes, a deaf fellowship once a month, and church services on Sunday. The staff consists of both hearing and deaf, young people and adults. We are now officially moved into the new facilities at Tres Clavos. Praise the Lord! There are about 45 students coming to school. Both of our buses are bringing students to school. Afternoon vocational classes are on hold until we get settled in and organized. The parent classes continue as well as do the community sign language classes.
The building project continues as there is still much to do. The church building is done enough to hold classes and church services inside. Tres Clavos has been hooked up to the electrical grid. Praise the Lord! We had waited almost 8 months for electricity. Click THE FUTURE tab above to see pictures and videos of all that is going on at Tres Clavos.
